Expanding Copley Place

Simon Property Group, owner of Copley Place, is seeking to add a 47 story condominium tower to the Dartmouth Street end, above the Neiman Marcus store, reshaping the entry and adding about 280 luxury units to Back Bay / South End spine.  Kevin Lynch's conception of the swath of tall buildings serving the low-rise residential neighborhoods which it abuts is slowly coming true.  

The BRA should encourage this type of density, especially in a spot where shadows will make little impact, mass transit is plentiful and open space is available.

MFA update

    

The new East wing of the museum designed by Richard Rogers and Partners, is well underway with the beginning of the steel frame starting to be erected.  The mock ups reveal a very sleek, modern language for the exterior detailing.

Here is a photo of progress on the new Fenway (north) entry which will, no doubt, cause endless confusion for visitors accustomed to the Huntington Avenue portal.  It is scheduled to open next month.
