Simon Property Group, owner of Copley Place, is seeking to add a 47 story condominium tower to the Dartmouth Street end, above the Neiman Marcus store, reshaping the entry and adding about 280 luxury units to Back Bay / South End spine. Kevin Lynch's conception of the swath of tall buildings serving the low-rise residential neighborhoods which it abuts is slowly coming true. The BRA should encourage this type of density, especially in a spot where shadows will make little impact, mass transit is plentiful and open space is available.
